La douleur postopératoire est une expérience sensorielle et émotionnelle désagréable vécue par les patients récemment opérés. Fréquemment, nos patients rapportent un soulagement insuffisant de leurs douleurs postopératoires. Trois thèmes ont été étudiés chez ces infirmiers: Postoperative pain is an unpleasant sensorial and emotional experience sensed by the recently operated patients.

Frequently, our patients report an ineffective pain control. The aim of our study was to evaluate the consideration of pain by paramedical staff.

We proposed a questionnaire to the nurses working in two general surgery departments and in a postoperative intensive care unit. Three topics were studied: All nurses were convinced that laparoscopy improves postoperative comfort.

No preoperative psychological preparation was practiced by our nurses. No scale was used for the measurement of pain. One out of three nurses took the liberty of administrating analgesic without medical prescription.

For nurses, the workload and the unavailability of doctors represent the main difficulty encountered in the management of pain.
